Traditional Land Use is defined as any area of land that is sacred to the Metis people for the purposes of a culturally significant activity or belief. These areas are important to document and record as they are primarily recognized through oral histories passed down from generation to generation and are steeped in the Metis connection to the land. It is of great importance to the Metis that these histories and traditions are not forgotten over the passage of time. Activities viewed as traditional are hunting, trapping, fishing, gathering of medicines and berries. Belief sites are areas used for spiritual gathering sites (historic and contemporary) and burial grounds.
